I want to thank everyone who was truly committed to this show. My experience working on T&C was a great one despite scheduling conflicts and the like. I found magic in our explorations of Greece and Troy, and Cressida will live with me for many many years. I do hope that you can come to the table next year and put the production up- it deserves it and you deserve it. I will miss everyone dearly, but will still be in Madison for the reading and for the better part of Sept. After that, I am set to study voice & performance in Nimes, France. You can bet that I'll be working on monologues from the show whilst I'm there. Take care everyone, and keep living/breathing Shakespeare.

Love,

We should have an interesting "How to be a Dude" session. I personally would like some answers to the questions Jess posed. I mean - they have those "Pregnancy Suits" so guys can feel what it's like, but there are no "Here's My Penis But I Can't Find Anything Else" suits.

Damn Shame.

All I know - thus far - is to not, as Mr. Matsushita says, "over-guy it". You end up looking like a chick trying to play a man, and that's all the audience can see of you.

Yay for cross-gender rehearsal day!!!

The gender switch session is coming, my dear. And since Neil is the only man playing a woman, he and I will be there for reference and questions, and you will all help him with Andromache. I'm very happy you're thinking about it though, and even a little glad you're struggling with it--it will be all the more that you bring to Paris and Menelaus.

Kathy,
I feel you. I too am often mulling over everyone's lines in the scene to figure out what the hell is going on and how it came to this, etc. There's a war on. We're steeped in chaos and violence beauty and romance aren't we? So what's next? If only some good-looking half-naked servant would bring some pizza and espresso so we could figure this all out diplomatically. hm...

Kathy's right about speaking up and asking questions in rehearsal. It's not interrupting, it's what we're there for. Until you what every word means and what reason you have for saying it, you will have trouble memorizing them. You need those hooks to hang the words on or else they will continually float away.

You all know those moments when you suddenly get why you're saying something: a light goes on and, the next time you get to play that moment, the line is memorized and you deliver it with purpose. That's what every moment should be by the time we open in September. With sixteen people on stage and all those lights flashing on all the time, it will make for one hell of a play, right? Right.

During rehearsal is preferable, but I am available night and day with my cellphone, a copy of the script, and the Oxford English Dictionary by me.
